Dr. G.P. Bhatnagar the author of the book, a product of the Indo-China war belongs to an ordinary family, born with an ambition to be an officer in Services (Airforce). After graduation appeared for SSB, qualified for Navigator(Airforce) but could not join due to eyesight problem.

He joined the job as a teacher, again appeared for SSB, and qualified for the Indian Army(Artillery). Got an experience of indo-china border, the taste of after-effects of two operations, (62-63, 65) joined border Security Force which groomed him in various capacities as an operational commander, staff officer, Trainer, and a practical scientist. He was trained in various professional and specialized courses at various courses within the organization, training institutions, and abroad. Here his expertise was used in 1971 Liberation of Bangladesh operations where BSF made rockets with support of VSSC were launched and he was awarded Gallantry medal. Also for his good work, he was honored with a Police medal, President medal for Distinguished service, and Vikram Sarabhai medal for science and technology.

He got an opportunity to raise new formations and train young budding boys. He commanded B.S.F.Academy, Tear Smoke unit (only unit of its kind in Asia) and raised Rustamji Institute of Technology(first institution raised by any paramilitary force). After retirement, he has utilized his experience and expertise in commissioning a Japanese service company, training Indian youth in the field of physiotherapy, education, engineering, and now devoting time in shaping and grooming Indian youth(dedicated to making India self-reliant & self-sufficient).
